～ています　＜Vて形+います＞②　

The sentence pattern "Verb てform+います" has several meanings.
We have studied the case in which it indicates that a certain action is in progress.

 

 

Let's look at a different case this time.
When the same action is repeated several times, it is expressed using ”Verb てform+います” to indicate it.
This expression is often used to describe a habit or occupation.

 

e.g. 山田さんは毎朝新聞を読んでいます。
 　  やまださんは まいあさ しんぶんを よんでいます。　　 
　　Mr. Yamada reads newspaper every morning. 
 
e.g. わたしは毎週水曜日に日本語を勉強しています。　
       わたしは まいしゅう すいようびに にほんごを べんきょうしています。　
　　 I study Japanese every Wednesday.
 
 e.g. 木村さんは午後はいつも野球をしています。
       きむらさんは ごごは いつも やきゅうをしています。
        Ms. Kimura always plays baseball in the afternoon.
 
 e.g. 私は教師です。学校で英語を教えています。
       わたしは きょうしです。がっこうで えいごを おしえています。 　
        I am a teacher. I teach English at school.
 
 e.g.
  Q：キムさんのお仕事は何ですか。
     A：私は学生です。大学で経済を勉強しています。　
  Q：キムさんのおしごとはなんですか。   
 　A：わたしは がくせいです。だいがくで けいざいを べんきょうしています。　　　
  Q：What do you do, Ms. Kim?
     A： I am a student. I am studying economics at university.　
 
 e.g.
　父は会社員です。旅行会社で働いています。     ちちは かいしゃいんです。りょこうがいしゃで はたらいています。　 
　My father is a company employee.  He works for a travel agency. 
 
 e.g.
  A：新しいシャツを買いたいです。
 　 B：「しまだデパート」で素敵なシャツを売っていますよ。　
 A：あたらしいシャツをかいたいです。
　  B：「しまだデパート」で すてきなシャツを うっていますよ。
 A：I want to buy a new shirt.
   B： They sell nice shirts at the Shimada Department Store.　
 
 e.g. この会社はパソコンを作っています。     
　　このかいしゃは パソコンを つくっています。 
　　This company makes computers.
